OnePlus teased that a more budget oriented smartphone will land this year, and they have unveiled the OnePlus X. The OnePlus X is directly targeted at the budget market just like OnePlus teased.
The OnePlus X packs a 5″ 1080p Super AMOLED display. The external appearance is undoubtedly one of the main selling points for the new OnePlus X. It will be offered in 2 versions; Onyx and a limited Ceramic edition. Both types come with an anodized aluminium frame. The Onyx option of the OnePlus X comes with normal gorilla glass at the front and back.
The Ceramic one is more intriguing, as it comes scratch-resistant with a hardness of 8.5H on the Mohs scale. That’s impressive. According to OnePlus, their production methodology is to bake the plates in zircon molds at up to 2,700ºF (1482ºCelsius), then let them cool for two days, achieving a tough, hard coated material. This material sounds interesting on a phone. Both the Onyx and Ceramic editions undergo numerous polishing processes to achieve the final look and finish according to OnePlus and it gives the devices the Premium look and feel. For a budget oriented smartphone, that’s really impressive.
The OnePlus X is powered by the Snapdragon 801 SoC and it packs 3GB of Ram just like the old OnePlus One did. It is somewhat doubtful whether it is acceptable to have specs of 2014 at the latter part of 2015, but OnePlus seems to have made everything fully optimized for this device hardware. The OnePlus X only packs 16GB of Internal Storage, but it is expandable via a Micro SD card. If you don’t plan to use a Micro SD Card, you can use the device as a dual sim device by making use of the Micro SD card slot that supports sims too.
The OnePlus X packs a 13MP ISOCELL camera with an aperture of F/2.2 at the back and a 8MP camera with an aperture of F/2.4 at the front as the selfie camera. Unfortunately, the OnePlus X doesn’t support 4K video recording even though the processor supports it.
The OnePlus X runs on Android 5.1.1 with Oxygen OS on top. It retains some of the cool features that made the OnePlus One and Two impressive.
To power the device, the OnePlus X has a 2520 mAh battery inside.
The OnePlus X is priced at $249 (£199) for the Onyx variant, while the Ceramic variant commands a whopping £70 premium and according to OnePlus it won’t be sold in the US. The ceramic version will be pretty exclusive as well, and OnePlus will only be making 10,000 units.
