Now that the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ are here, we know that the next top Samsung Flagship is going to be the Galaxy S7. We heard many rumors about the Galaxy S7 in the past few weeks and we even saw a Samsung smartphone with the name “Lucky-LTE” appear on the Geekbench benchmark database recently. According to Sammobile, this device is indeed the Galaxy S7 and it has been codenamed “Project Lucky”.
The report claims that Samsung is using the word Lucky in the name because the number 7 has been called the lucky number for ages. Codename apart, the S7 really sounds like a powerful device from the early rumors.
The Galaxy S7 is being tested with a new Exynos 8890 chipset, which scored impressively in the Geekbench benchmark. Some variants of the S7 will also be using the Snapdragon 820, most likely in the US where CDMA networks are still in operation.
According to SamMobile’s insiders, the Galaxy S7 is being tested with Samsung’s screaming fast UFS 2.0 storage, but the company might have found a way to make it work with SD cards. In case if you’re not aware, the memory controller on SD cards and the UFS 2.0 storage aren’t compatible with each other, making it impossible for them to co-exist on the same device. This is why the S6, S6 Edge, Note 5 or S6 Edge+ have SD cards in them. Samsung probably is trying out interfacing techniques to get around the limitation. At this point it is doubtful, we will have to wait and see whether the end product will have it.
Camera wise, according to the report Samsung is supposedly testing a new 20MP ISOCELL camera on the Galaxy S7, and also a project called the “all lens cover.” At this point that is all we know.
These are some early information about the upcoming Galaxy S7. Stay tuned as we will find out more soon in the coming weeks as the rumor mill explodes. The S7 is expected to launch in Early 2016.
