Sony promised its Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update for the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z Ultra would arrive this month, and today it is delivering on that promise. The new software — complete with everything that’s new in Android 4.3 and much-improved Sony apps — is rolling out “right about now.”
The new update finally brings Project Butter’s performance improvements to Sony’s latest flagship smartphones, enabling a smoother experience all round. It should also include… other Android 4.3 features, such as support for Bluetooth Smart, and OpenGL ES 3.0 graphics.
The most noticeable changes are to Sony’s own apps and user interface, however. The Smart Social Camera, which made its debut with the Xperia Z1, is now available on the Xperia Z Ultra, and Sony’s entire “native app portfolio” — which includes Messaging, MyXperia, Smart Connect, TrackID, and more — has been tweaked and improved.
Sony’s media apps — including Walkman, Album, and Movies — now boast Sony Entertainment Network and PlayMemories integration, offering “seamless access to both local and cloud content.”
Sony promised that Android 4.3 would reach other devices this month, too, and those updates are “right around the corner,” it says.
