There have been lots and lots of rumors regarding the 8 Speed AT for the 2015 Stingray. Well it’s finally out in the open.
This bad boy is set to replace the current 6 Speed AT that is currently on offer alongside the 7 Speed MT. The new unit is lighter by 4 Kg and is said to be 5% more efficient, the weight savings are due to the usage of magnesium along with lightweight aluminium.
Chevrolet’s assistant chief engineer for 8 speed automatic transmissions said, “Corvette Stingray’s new eight-speed automatic delivers the comfort and driveability of a true automatic transmission, as well as lightning-fast shifts and the manual control that enhance the performance-driving experience.
This new AT happens to be a single clutch model and not a dual clutch option, but Chevy claims that claims that it actually provides faster upshifts than the PDK transmission from a Porsche 911.
It was designed to enhance the driving experience of the Corvette Stingray and offer a level of performance equivalent to a DCT but without the hassle of R&D.
